Florida was under English rule from 1763 to 1783. The Spanish captured Pensacola, the capital of West Florida, in 1781. Nothing has been located concerning the illustrated issue, the engraved notes of which have differently designed borders and text layout. Each denomination apparently was printed in a different color as indicated by a salmon red color on one note and a greenish brown color on another. No evidence of the issuer or of the issued notes has been located. English traders were operating in Pensacola in the decade beginning in 1770.
